The first generation, the Range Rover Classic was produced between 1970 and 1996. was not designed as a luxury 4x4. The early Range Rovers had basic interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards. The second generation Range Rover was introduced 25 years after the first generation Range Rover in 1995. The company updated the version of the Rover V8 engines, and also add the option of a 2.5 litre BMW 6 cylinder turbo-diesel. This reinforced by BMW's subsequent ownership of the Land Rover company. In 2002 the third generation Range Rover was introduced. The model was planned and developed under BMW ownership. The only transmission available was the automatic one. From 2006, the Range Rover's exterior was updated as well as the engine which is now Jaguar's AJ-V8. This new Range Rover was officially presented at the 2005 North American International Auto Show and released in summer 2005. In addition to the engine change, the 2006 Range Rover is equipped with a whole new system including a touch screen navigation, radio, CD, Satellite Radio (US), telephone, rear view camera.
