How to prepare your car for the sale

It is time to sell your car and that can be both an exciting and frightening time for many people and can cause confusion about what course of action is right for them and their wallet. The safe bet is to take it to the dealership right? While that is a relatively easy task and will not require much of your time selling a used car at the trade in rate is usually much lower than the market price. So we are going to tell you how to circumvent the middleman and make the money for your used car that you deserve.
The First step that needs to be done is to set a competitive price. Ideally, this price should be ten to fifteen percent higher than what you are actually willing to sell the car for. It is important however to not set the price to high as this will scare away potential buyers who are not willing to pay that high for the car. So while simple psychology will work when it comes to negotiating, don’t overdo it or you will receive fewer responses from future buyers.
Step number two is to prepare your car to be sold and ready all of the necessary records. You obviously don’t want to empty your bank account fixing up a car that you are going to sell but it needs to be in good working condition and it has to be appealing to a potential buyer. Put yourself in the Buyers shoes and realize what they are looking for. First on their list usually is to check that the car is in good working condition and it is not going to fall apart the second that they drive it off the lot. It is a good idea to get it checked out by a mechanic to make sure that it is something that can be sold without needing repair. Second the exterior needs to have street appeal and look like it is something that someone would want to be seen driving around town in. This means that the Paint Job needs to be in good condition and that all of the lights are in order and no visible dents or scratches. Then work your way to the interior and clean up and make sure that no trash or debris laying around inside and everything is in order and clean, this includes making sure all of the lights are in working condition. If the lights are dim and fading it could raise concerns about the cars electrical problems. All in all when the customer first catches a glimpse of the inside of the car it should look almost like it is brand new. If executing all of these tasks seems impossible or that it will take months to do then the car will not sell for very much and it might be time to look at other options.
