Monteverdi was a Swiss luxury car company founded in 1967 by Peter Monteverdi. and based in Binningen, in the south of Basel, Switzerland. From the late 1950s to the early 1960s, Peter Monteverdi not only manufactured and worked for his own company, but also developed the motor vehicle repair business of other car companies such as Ferrari, BMW and Lancia marques. In 1967, Monteverdi introduced their first luxury and tourism car called Monteverdi High Speed 375S coupé. The model gained very positive reviews. Monteverdi ended the production of luxury cars in 1976, and started to produce a new kind of car: well-equipped luxurious Off-road Station wagons, with the first Model being the Monteverdi Sahara. Monteverdi got inspired and used components from many famous car brands such as Chrysler, Fiat, Renault, Dodge, Plymouth, Mercedes-Bemz, Alfa Romeo and Peugeot. Car production in Basel ended by 1984.
