A Racing driver, Enzo Ferrari is not satisfied with this role and creates its own 'stable', Scuderia Ferrari, in 1929. During nearly twenty years, the 'stable' will prepare Alfa Romeos for racing, before the Ferrari make produces its own models of cars since 1947. See the ads Ferrari wanted below.
1947 sees the first Ferrari destined to the public. In 1962, the 'Commandatore' presents his latest jewel: the 250 GTO. The GTO is presented like an evolution of a mass-production car, the 250 WP to finance the competition. It is a true object of expensive fetishism for collectors. In 1969, whilst buying about half of the capital of Ferrari, FIAT takes control of it. However, Enzo Ferrari will keep the control of the make until his death, in 1988. The two makes already had operated a joint venture in the 1960ies, which had given birth to the Dino, a FIAT with a Ferrari V6. In 1978 Ferrari started working on the successor of the 512 BBi. One of the main goals was to make a car which could be sold in the USA, which was not the case with the 512 BBi, as it did not comply with all US regulations.This resulted in the decision in a new car which would be known as the famous Ferrari Testarossa.
