Duesenberg Automobile & Motors was founded by the Duesenberg brothers, August and Fred in 1913. Duesenberg was an Auburn, Indiana based luxury automobile company active from 1913 to 1937. Duesenberg cars were entirely built by hand by the two self-taught engineer brothers. The brand car was considered one of the best cars in the beginning of the 20th century. Cord, the founder of Cord Automobile and owner of Auburn Automobile, was so impressed by the Duesenberg brothers' engineering skills and talent. In 1926, he bought the company and acquired the brand name in order to produce luxury cars. Cord wanted to produce the biggest, fastest and most expensive car to compete with the biggest and most luxurious European cars of the era, like Mercedes or Rolls-Royce.
