In 1920, Dodge becomes the second rank American manufacturer. In the Forties, the style of the range is modernized and Dodge resemble more and more De Soto or of Plymouth. In 1949, completely new models make their appearance: Wayfarer, Meadowbrook and Coronet, with automatic or semi-automatic transmission. Dodge is the sporting side of the Chrysler group. “Dodge” has been one of the five best-selling nameplates in the United States nearly every year for almost a century. More than one million vehicles named “Dodge” were sold in the United States in 2005, a statistic that has been firmly maintained for every year since 1994. Chrysler Corporation in turn acquired Dodge Brothers in 1928, primarily to get the Hamtramck plant.
