De Tomaso is an Italian make, founded by Argentinian Alejandro de Tomaso. De Tomaso's first model was the Vallelunga, introduced in 1963 with Ford Cortina engine. With the Mangusta, De Tomaso switched from European to American Ford motors. The Pantera made De Tomaso famous. Elvis Presley used to own a De Tomaso Pantera. De Tomaso built Deauville and Longchamp, and purchased Benelli. Nowadays, De Tomaso is the only Italian exotic carmaker, who remains completely independent, although its financial health remains to be proven. In 1976, de Tomaso took over Maserati. The Deauville, a 4-door luxury saloon, was fitted with a large 5763 cc V8 Ford motor. It was a real business car. For the first time a De Tomaso vehicle was launched with automatic transmission. Ford studied the feasibility of bringing the Deauville to the USA, fitting it with a Maverick V8 drive train for the American market. However the De Tomaso Deauvile never amde it in large numbers to the US market. PThe Longchamp was produced from 1972 to 1989. It was powered by a 5763 cc Ford V8 engine, developing 300 hp, that could reach a 240 km/h max speed. See the ads De Tomaso wanted below.

In March 1998 De Tomaso signed a licensing agreement with Qvale for the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of all current and future De Tomaso products. Qvale now produces the Mangusta under its own brand, through its Italian operation, Qvale Modena. Visit the official De Tomaso site. A history of De Tomaso can be found on Wikipedia.
