Despite the state of the economy at the time, the company managed to sell DeSoto cars, with the DeSoto's 1942 model being the second most memorable model before the war began. But the economic downturn in 1958 hurt sales, and the sales continued for 1959 and 1960. See the ads De Soto wanted below.
During the 1958 recession, DeSoto was affected by falling sales. DeSoto brand was damaged by Chrysler's marketing when Chrysler Corporation, noticing that consumers were more interested in Chrysler cars, decided to pit each of the five marques (Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial) against one other.
