In 1909, Ettore Bugatti starts to build cars on his own, in the factory of Molsheim, close to Strasbourg. Henceforth, the Bugatti emblem decorates all the models. With the automobile show of 1910 in Paris, the Bugatti are a sharp success. These vehicles are characterized by an advanced technique, a high quality of completion and the esthetics of the design. They express the motto of Ettore Bugatti: "Nothing is too beautiful, nothing is not too expensive". The Bugatti style is expressed through full and fluid lines. The talent of Jean (Ettore's son) is ideally assisted by that of the draughtsman Joseph Walter, who transforms his ideas into correctly elaborate plans. Called to the head of his father's factory in 1936, Jean dies three years later in an accident by testing a new model. In 1939, the war puts an end to the production of Molsheim. The company is later ressuscitated and now belongs to Volkswagen.
